Whirl Hands Over the Keys to Its AI Chat App
Another AI chat app wants your attention. This one also hands over the code.
Whirl has published its full app under the MIT license. Its repository describes multiple models in one conversation, persistent memory, editable documents and connections to your own tools. You can inspect it, contribute, or run your own version.
There is a catch, because of course there is: self-hosting still depends on services including Convex, Clerk and OpenRouter. Open code does not make the infrastructure bill disappear.
Still, being able to see what is under the bonnet beats another chatbot asking you to trust the magic.
